Vue 8.4 Frontier Adds Native Collada Support for DAZ 3D Models

April 10, 2010

Yep folks, that’s what arrived in the email box the other day. Here’s more…

Create Your Own 3D Worlds With Digital Characters

New! Vue 8.4 Frontier adds support for DAZ Collada!

With Vue 8 Frontier, surround your Poser & Daz Studio characters with beautiful, natural 3D landscapes.

Vue 8 Frontier provides scenic nature and digital character rendering for 3D enthusiasts to easily compose character-filled images and video clips. Vue 8 Frontier now imports static* models from both Poser and DAZ Collada (Poser .pz3 or DAZ Studio .dae).

SkinVue 8 – the skin realism utility included for free in Vue 8 Frontier – is also extended to add support for DAZ Studio characters.

Vue 8 Frontier retains the modular architecture of the 3D Enthusiasts and 3D Artists products, so you can progressively upgrade all the way up to Vue Complete.

* Import of animated meshes is available through
the additional 3DImport module for Vue 8.

Looks like this does  come with the usual Vue buyer caveats, like needing the 3DImport module for animated meshes. Not a huge concern for me, but it would be nice if the Vue people made things a little easier. Now I’ll have to go back and take a look at their clunky version hierarchy to see what I need if I want to include animation capabilities.

If you get this, you will have to get Poser Pro 2010!!! It has Collada support so that scenes can be imported into 3DSMax, Maya, C4D. And after some initial problems with PP10 I am starting to really like it. The 64bit rendering is sure fast.

Well that’s really good news, but like you I’m sick of the Vue Money Pit. So I’ll have to do a purchase evaluation as well to see if things are worth it for me. Tx for the info.
