What The Heck Are Those Bone Thingies?

May 5, 2010

And that’s just the way the email from an acquaintance came to me – Bone Thingies LOL. Bones are part of a skeleton structure within a 3D model. When you build a bone structure with joints within the 3D model, you can then move those joints, and the mesh follows along.

The little video here is from the great Cripeman. Here he uses Carrara to build a simple skeleton which can then be used to pose or even animate the little reindeer. While particulars of Bone Tools vary from program to program, the base concepts remain the same. Joints are placed where bending is desirable.

Thanks Cripeman!
