Happy Flag Day

June 14, 2010

It’s June 14th, and here in the USA, it’s Flag Day. Flag Day was a big deal when I was growing up, and now, it seems not so much. I never really knew the significance of the day until I looked it up. When I was a kid, all I really knew is that you were supposed to hang them.

June 14th commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the United States as the National Flag. It was officially established in 1916 by Woodrow Wilson. In 1949, National Flag Day was established by an act of Congress.

While not an official federal holiday, it’s still a day to honor and remember. So hang it, wave it, and display it proudly.
